Senior Research Officer (Economics and Policy)

Job Description 

The ideal candidate will support the organization’s strategic priorities and advance national development by spearheading research projects, analyzing data, and providing evidence-based policy recommendations. The Senior Research Officer will leverage their knowledge of economics, national issues, and data analysis tools to generate actionable insights for civic engagements and national policy direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and execute research projects to investigate economic and policy issues relevant to the organization’s mandate and national development priorities
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data using appropriate quantitative and qualitative methods and tools.
  • Synthesize research findings into clear, evidence-based policy recommendations.
  • Prepare high-quality reports, briefings, and presentations to communicate research results and policy positions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and build relationships with key stakeholders to facilitate policy development and decision-making engagement.
  • Monitor and evaluate the implementation of policies and programs to identify issues and ensure desired outcomes are achieved.
  • Contribute to the organization’s knowledge management by documenting and disseminating research findings.
  • Provide technical assistance and capacity-building support to staff on research methods and data analysis.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Advanced degree in economics, public policy, or a related field.
  • Minimum five years of experience in research, policy analysis, or a related role.
  • Strong understanding of economic principles, national development issues, and policy processes.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis tools and software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R, Python).
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the ability to translate complex information into actionable insights.
  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality research projects and policy advice.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team and build relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Desirable Qualities

  • Knowledge of the local context and familiarity with national development plans and policies.
  • Experience in project management and leading research teams.
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative research skills.

NB:

This position requires occasional travel within the country to conduct field research and engage with stakeholders.
