On Thursday, February 19, 2026, BudgIT formalised a partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) under the SIPAC – RoLAC II project, funded by the European Union and implemented by International IDEA.

The MoU reflects a shared commitment to proactive prevention in the fight against corruption. EFCC Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede, emphasised that anti-corruption efforts must go beyond investigations and prosecutions to include early risk detection and stronger institutional safeguards. He highlighted the work of the Directorate of Fraud Risk Assessment & Control, which has already prevented significant financial losses, demonstrating the value of focusing on prevention at the budget and project implementation stages.

Our Deputy Country Director, Vahyala Kwaga, highlighted the importance of collaboration between civil society and reform institutions, noting that partnerships create opportunities to exchange ideas and perspectives, enhancing the impact of oversight and reform initiatives. Dr. Emmanuel Uche, RoLAC II Project Manager, described the MoU as a step toward translating leadership commitment into practical actions that improve accountability in public financial management.

Under this agreement, we will work with the EFCC to support preventive measures, enhance capital project monitoring, and leverage data and technology to improve transparency in public resource management.
