Enhancing Accountability: BudgIT signs MoU with the Fiscal Responsibility Commission

On Wednesday, February 18, 2026, at the Fiscal Responsibility Commission office in Abuja, Nigeria, we signed an MoU with the Commission under the SIPAC – RoLAC II project, supported by the European Union and implemented by International IDEA.

The FRC Chairman, Dr. Victor Muruako, Esq, underscored the importance of embedding fiscal oversight at every stage of budget implementation and building systems that ensure public funds are managed effectively. He highlighted the Commission’s commitment to proactive stakeholder engagement to strengthen compliance and accountability.

Speaking on behalf of BudgIT, our Deputy Country Director, Mr Vahyala Kwaga, emphasised that civil society collaboration complements government efforts by providing independent research, data analysis, and practical insights that enhance monitoring capacity. Dr. Emmanuel Uche, Project Manager, Anti-Corruption, RoLAC II, highlighted the MoU’s role in supporting joint research, policy reviews, and innovative approaches to tracking budget execution, reinforcing institutional learning and informed decision-making.

The agreement establishes a framework for sustained collaboration, knowledge sharing, and capacity building, positioning the FRC to improve oversight and accountability in public financial management across Nigeria.
